LOVE IS LOUDER WEEK 2018.

Lately, it feels like there is too much focus on the ways we’re divided, and not enough focus on the things that connect us. Online and in our daily lives, so much of the conversation is about our differences, instead of celebrating our unique backgrounds and perspectives. That’s why we’re launching the first annual LOVE IS LOUDER WEEK from Friday, November 9th to Monday, November 19th.

Here’s how you can join us…

1. COMMIT TO USING YOUR VOICE TO AMPLIFY LOVE & SUPPORT

Start by making a commitment to use this week to think about all the ways you can help amplify messages and stories about love and support. Complete the form below to join us and we’ll send you emails throughout the week with ideas for making a positive impact.

2. CONNECT WITH OUR COMMUNITY AND SPREAD THE WORD.

Follow Love is Louder on social media and share your commitment to participate in Love is Louder Week 2018. Right click on one of the images below, save it and then share with the tags @LoveisLouder and #LoveisLouder.

WHAT IS LOVE IS LOUDER WEEK?

  • We all have the ability – as individuals, businesses, organizations, communities and campuses – to use our words and actions to make a positive impact on our community. During Love is Louder Week, we want everyone to think about how you can use your reach, voice, talents and resources to help make your community more resilient, supportive, connected and inclusive.

  • We believe that, together, we can turn down the volume on negative, divisive and harmful noise, and amplify positive messages that will help our communities heal, connect and grow stronger.

  • This past year, The Jed Foundation has had more requests than ever from campuses and communities who want to use Love is Louder programs, events and resources to tackles issues like bullying, discrimination, body image, loneliness and depression. Love is Louder Week is also a time for us to raise funds together to support this important work.

HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

  • INDIVIDUALS: By signing up using the form below, you’re committing to use your voice and talents to amplify messages that bring us together, make us stronger and improve our communities. • CAMPUSES AND ORGANIZATIONS: When your students and members feel connected, engaged, appreciated and supported, they become more productive parts of the larger community. EVENT & ACTIVITY IDEAS FOR
LOVE IS LOUDER WEEK 2018!

PICTURE EVENTS

Whether you are a group of friends, a class, a department at work, or an organization like a club, fraternity or sorority — a #LoveisLouder photo event is always a fun way to build community, meet new people and amplify positive messages. People from around the world have uploaded photos and videos with #loveislouder or a “#loveislouder than ______” message written on their hands. Buy a pack of sharpies, get your camera ready and bring together a group of people to take pictures and promote positive messages of help, hope and acceptance. Add meaning to the event by having a speaker come share their story or a counselor talk about ways to cope with tough times or negative voices. Make the impact of your event last longer by turning the pictures into a collage that you can display in a prominent location or create a digital album that can be shared with attendees after the event.

CONCERT/SHOWS

Music and theater can make us think, inspire us and connect us. Put together a performance or several performances that capture what Love is Louder means to you and your community. If you are with a theater or musical group, consider dedicating one of your performances to Love is Louder. You can share information about the movement, hand out Action Cards or ask attendees to make a donation as an entry fee. We can even setup a ticketing system for you so it’s easy to sell tickets and have the donations go straight to Love is Louder. If you’re interested in us creating a hub for your event, email us at info@loveislouder.com.  Advocates have also put on comedy shows, dance performances, poetry readings and karaoke nights that promote and support Love is Louder.

GROUP ART PROJECTS

We’ve been amazed at all the ways our community members have found to bring people together to amplify the #LoveisLouder message. Get permission to turn your student union or a public space into a living art project. Use chalk to create #LoveisLouder messages and murals and encourage people to come during a designated time window to add their message or art. Create a gratitude wall where people can add sticky notes with things that are grateful for to create a collage of positive messages. One school created a large wooden backdrop and had people write negative words that they’d been called (or thought about themselves) and then they used sponges with paint to cover the words – creating a piece of modern art that they then cut into small squares to share with the participants as a reminder of their experience. Get creative and don’t forget to share pictures of your project on social media with the hashtag #LoveisLouder.

GALLERY OR ART SHOWS

Ask artists in your community or school to create #LoveisLouder artwork and photos to be displayed in one location during a specified time. Include information on the Love is Louder movement at your event. You can even sell the artwork and donate the proceeds to The Jed Foundation and Love is Louder. Make sure to share images of the artwork with us at events@loveislouder.com.

VOLUNTEER & FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES:

Plan your Love is Louder event around a volunteer activity like a clean-up day, garage sale for charity or helping people in your community. Bring people together to create cards or gifts for children in local hospitals or seniors in retirement homes. Order Love is Louder t-shirts (www.loveislouder.com/store) or stickers to wear while you do good and take plenty of markers for #loveislouder pics. Our team can also help you plan fundraisers for The Jed Foundation and Love is Louder, or incorporate fundraising into any of these event suggestions. For more information, contact us at info@loveislouder.com.

STORYTELLER EVENTS:

Work with faculty or an organization advisor at your school to hold an assembly or event where one or more speakers tell their story. We encourage you to pick storytellers who will help attendees better understand different types of people who may have experienced different types of challenges. It’s always valuable to have speakers focus on lessons they learned and advice they can share about overcoming obstacles and managing emotional health challenges like bullying, abuse, depression, or loneliness. You can also include a musical performance, artwork or #loveislouder photo sessions at the event. Make sure that a counselor is included in the planning of the event. If you are on a campus or in a community with mental health resources, you could also have a representative from that resource come and talk about their services and answer any questions.
